Welcome To Our Website!

Our Lady of Grace is a Parish that was literally created by the residents of the area, shortly after the turn of the century. Indeed, its very name is symbolic, as a group of mothers invoked intercession of Our Lady to obtain the divine grace that blessed their efforts to establish a church in their own neighborhood.

The first Mass in the parish was offered in the auditorium of the James Monroe school, on December 8, 1909. Soon the church was moved to a store building at Fullerton and Hamlin Avenues. This temporarily was "our own" church. The Blessed Sacrament was reserved here now and the doors were always open to the faithful. Volunteer helpers made repairs, additions, and decorations. The devoted parishioners reflected their great joy and pride in the thrilling growth of their infant parish.

These early scenes became swiftly-fleeting memories when the new church-school building was completed, on the site where it still stands, and which now serves as the parish school. When this building was first occupied, and later dedicated by Archbishop Quigley on October 29, 1911.

In a short time, however, all the facilities of church and school were completed, and the pioneering days and years were drawing to a close. This was "home", at last, for Our Lady of Grace Church and School, to fulfill the prayers and unceasing efforts of the neighbors who asked for it and were willing to work for it.

The Church celebrated its 100th year anniversary in 2009 and is still standing strong. The Parishioners and Church administrators continue to stride towards growth in the community and welcomes those interested in joining our Parish with open arms.
